Tombo and Sunny are young macaque monkeys who live with their mother near the Awaji Island Monkey Centre in Japan. In this well-observed book, we cannot help identifying with the two young macaques as they groom each other, learn to play independently and run down to the Monkey Centre for breakfast. Most touchingly, we see the youngsters deal with a change in their mother's affection when a new baby is born. Researcher Sarah Turner's compelling photographs and simple text capture the wonder and complexity of these little monkeys as they interact with their mother, other monkeys and the human family who feeds and cares for them. The story of the monkeys happy relationship with their extended family and with their caretakers at the Monkey Centre reinforces the value of a mother's care and sibling bonds, and shows conservation and animal protection at its finest.
